The Shooting Star

You were like a shooting star
   Millions saw you from afar
   Flaming in the night time sky
Then disappearing up on high
 
 But those who saw your fleeting light
   Were warmed in spirit by your sight
   Touching hearts like gentle fire
Kindling hope in our desire
 
Though many were not there to see
   You linger in our memory
   You did not leave us quite the same
For part of us, you became
